Bicycling Around Ambergris Caye

There are several bike rental shops around the island of Ambergris Caye. You might want to ask your front desk for directions and recommendations. They’ll be able to hook you up with the closest bike rental shop from your resort. Some resorts have bicycles that they will either rent to their guests or provide for free usage. Ask your front desk at check in..
There are a few things you’ll need to consider to make sure your voyage is both pleasurable and memorable. First, keep in mind that San Pedro, Belize is much bigger than it might seem. The sun can be pretty brutal, so you’ll need plenty of sunblock and fluids! Riding on the beach can be fun, but also a challenge, especially in the softer sandy areas. But the breeze and the view are blissful.
Take your time and cruise. If you choose to venture up north or down south, you’ll want to take the beach path and return on the road or vice versa, but do take both routes. You will enjoy the experience both paths offer. The street side towards the west side of the island provides lovely vegetation views, mangroves and several species of birds if you are into bird watching. You’ll pass by countless private homes that will make you want your very own slice of paradise.
Bicycles rent between $15-$20 BZD per day. It is cheaper to rent it for the entire day than renting hourly. Most bikes are beach cruisers. You’ll find that shops will generally carry both female and male bikes, as well as kids size bikes. If traveling with a small child, they can attach a child seat on the bike upon request. All bicycles come with a lock and chain, and you’ll want to use them. While not in use be absolutely sure to lock those bikes to the nearest bike rack or light post. Shops will also give you the necessary information on one-way streets, to avoid going against traffic.
