Ambergris Caye Beaches

Sargassum

In an earlier blog, we spoke of the issues with the sargassum not only throughout the Caribbean but in particular on the beaches of Ambergris Caye. What is Sargassum? Sargassum is a seaweed that migrates through the ocean currents from the Sargasso Sea. Sargassum provides food, refuge and a breeding ground for a variety of marine life. Many of the hotels work very hard trying to clear away the seaweed. But it is still something that mother nature continues to send our way. So what to do about it?

Secret Beach

What many people are now discovering is that Ambergris Caye has a secret when it comes to beautiful beaches. Many people tend to focus their attention on the east coast Ambergris Caye beaches, with good reason. The east coast has amazing views. It also has easy access to the worlds second largest barrier reef not to mention paved roads. Since the sargassum has been washing up on the east coast beaches, visitors have been discovering what the locals refer to as “Secret Beach”. This area is located on the west coast of Ambergris Caye that is known as Ambergris Bay. If it had to be described in a word, I’d say GORGEOUS! On any given day you’ll find visitors and locals basking in the sun enjoying the white sandy beaches of la isla bonita. With no sargassum!!

The Sandbar
Another area that has become quite popular is an area on the back of the island called the Sandbar. There are many local boat tours that go to that side of the island to bbq. The water is warm and shallow. You’ll enjoy the crystal clear beautiful blue water. Perfect to just kick back, relax and soak in the sun.

Ambergris Caye beaches certainly attract tourists. There are many who are looking to invest, retire and/or relocate to Belize. Lots of development happening in this area, not to mention Leonardo DiCaprio project on Balackadore Caye which is just a few miles off the coast. Property values are on the climb and will only continue to get better. If this is your idea of a Caribbean paradise contact me for details of how you can own your own piece of land here.
