Popular Areas to Live in Belize

The beauty of living in Belize is that there are stretches that have not changed much since the Mayas roamed the sandy beaches. In spite of new buildings and intermingling of cultures and languages, there is a “sameness” about Belize that offers respite from a busy world.

If you have dreamed of what life might be like for you in Belize, look no further. Today we introduce you to the wonder of three amazing pieces of paradise: Ambergris Caye, San Pedro, and Caye Caulker.

We begin with Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island. Ambergris Caye is a haven for adventurous-types. Diving, snorkeling, sailing, and general exploration are everyday activities for many living on this diverse isle. It is also a popular destination for expats looking for the Belize experience with some of the familiarity of home.

Do not worry if you are not one for cliff diving, though. Ambergris Caye is also one of the most sophisticated areas of Belize. It offers upscale amenities, trendy restaurants, coffee houses, nightclubs, and plenty of opportunities to meet your new neighbors.

The market offers condos right on the beach with a pool and private pier. Some prefer a custom-built Caribbean home that leads directly to the turquoise waters. Either way, we have you covered. Your dream may involve being close to town. Or you might rather be far enough from town to feel like a settler. We have both types of properties to show you.

From the sophisticated beating-heart of Ambergris Caye real estate, we move to San Pedro, a town on the southern part of the island of Ambergris Caye. With less than 17,000 residents, San Pedro might be just the ticket. So many love the wear-shorts-year-around and shoes-are-optional kind of atmosphere. There is a wide range of bars, restaurants, and resort-like amenities. But the vibe is still laid back in San Pedro.

You won’t run into many traffic jams in San Pedro, as the primary means of transportation tends to be golf carts, scooters, and bicycles. Sure, you can drive your car, but why? If you want to sink into utter relaxation you might as well sink all the way in.

One of the most attractive features of San Pedro real estate – aside from the built-in tranquility, warm people, and unbelievable views – is that you are likely to find home buying a bit more affordable in this little slice of heaven.

And finally, allow us to introduce you to Caye Caulker, a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. Caye Caulker is actually divided by a narrow channel called the Split. If you want to feel as though you have truly stepped back in time, visit the island’s lone settlement, known as Caye Caulker Village. The only traffic sign in town reminds golf carts and bicycles to go slow, and if you walk into a small shop wearing no shoes, few would take notice. Caye Caulker Village is on the south side of the Split. To the north, there is a forest reserve, dense with mangrove and wildlife, primeval in its natural splendor.

There is not a corner of Ambergris Caye, San Pedro, or Caye Caulker real estate we do not know, and honestly, can tell you that any of them would be an amazing place to call home. Each offers its own unique flavor, meaning you can match your personality to the place that fits you best.
